Gigabyte RTX 3090 Ti Gaming OC
MSRP 2,150.00 USD
“It’s hot and draws a lot of power, but the Gigabyte GeForce RTX 3090 Ti Gaming OC delivers the best performance of any GPU you can buy.”
The fastest GPU you can buy
Excellent 4K gaming performance and ray tracing
Minimum fan noise
BIOS double key
Attracts a lot of power
This was the collective question that was circulating among the PC enthusiast crowd when the RTX 3090 Ti was originally announced. Nvidia already has the best graphics card you can buy with the RTX 3090, and the spec sheet indicated it was nothing more than a marketing ploy.
But Gigabyte’s GeForce RTX 3090 Ti Gaming OC proves that assumption wrong. Don’t get me wrong – it’s terribly large, absurdly expensive, and power-hungry. But if you’re looking to unleash the highest possible performance from a gaming PC, this is the graphics card you’ve always wanted.
Specifications and pricing
The Gigabyte RTX 3090 Ti Gaming OC is compatible with previous Gigabyte offerings in this range. You’re looking at a slight 2.4% increase in the maximum boost clock speed compared to the reference design, which is a small but noticeable difference. Otherwise, the difference comes down to the coolant and volume.

It’s a comically huge graphics card, 10mm wide and 9mm thick even from Nvidia’s massive reference design. The Gigabyte makes good use of the space with three 100mm fans and an extended heat sink, allowing air to pass directly through the cooler out of the PCB and backboard.
Powerful Performance The Gigabyte RTX 3090 Ti Gaming OC doesn’t sound great. It’s flat black, which is made even worse considering that this is the only RTX 3090 Ti design that Gigabyte offers (even of its Aorus branding).
It is not smooth. it’s boring. This card might look great on some builds, but I imagine most gamers would opt for something like the EVGA FTW3 or MSI Suprim X versions just because they’re more flashy.
The main difference is the price. The Gigabyte model retails for as low as $2,000, while models like the EVGA FTW3 Ultra approach $2,200. This is the range of new cards in stock. Now, $200 is $200, but that’s not much of a difference considering the cost of the RTX 3090 Ti.
For the RTX 3090 Ti in general, it’s one graphics-hungry card. It has a 10% increase in clock speed compared to the base model, along with a slight increase in the number of cores and memory frequency. It comes with an amazing 100W header, bringing the TDP up to 450W.
Nvidia only recommends an 850W power supply, which is a little worrisome. I wouldn’t use an RTX 3090 Ti with anything less than a 1000W PSU (read our roundup of the best PC power supplies if you need an upgrade).
The RTX 3090 Ti is surprisingly good for gaming, and Gigabyte’s Gaming OC version pushes it even further. Overall, the card was 9.8% faster in my benchmarks than the reference RTX 3090 design, and 13.2% faster than the RTX 3080 Ti at 4K with Ultra settings. If you want the exact details, you can see my full results in the table below.
All my testing was done with a Core i9-10900K and 32GB of DDR4-3200 memory. I’ve only included the 4K results here, so let’s be honest, you’re not buying an RTX 3090 Ti to not Play in 4K. However, I was surprised to see a difference in some games even at 1080p, including an 8.5% increase in Red Dead Redemption 2 and 7.2% increase in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.
The RTX 3090 Ti obviously hits the gaming mark that the RTX 3090 didn’t. For over a year now, I’ve been pushing gamers toward the RTX 3080 Ti over the RTX 3090 because it’s much cheaper and runs about the same performance. The RTX 3090 Ti, and especially Gigabyte’s Gaming OC variant, makes a compelling case for buying a gaming flagship.
|RTX 3090 Ti||RTX 3090|
|3DMark Time Spy||19848||18341|
|Red Dead Redemption 2||84 fps||77fps|
|It is an electronic game||86fps||69 fps|
|Assassin’s Creed Valhalla||72 fps||63 fps|
|Forza Horizon 4||147 fps||158 fps|
|Cyberpunk 2077 movie||49fps||46 fps|
|Cyberpunk 2077 w / RT||24fps||21 fps|
Going back to the details, the RTX 3090 Ti provided a significant performance boost over the RTX 3090 in all of my tests except Forza Horizon 4. Across accuracy, the RTX 3090 consistently outperforms the more expensive Ti variant here.
However, the RTX 3090 Ti is great. It’s the first card to break 70 frames per second (fps) at it Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, It came close to 60 frames per second Cyberpunk 2077 movie With everything maxed out.
This performance is scaled up with ray tracing turned on, providing a massive 14% increase in Cyberpunk 2077 movie on the basic form. You might want to play Nvidia’s Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS), but this demanding test shows how the RTX 3090 Ti can still deliver real benefits in gaming.
This was my main concern – the RTX 3090 is a card that’s really made for professionals, not gamers, so I figured the Ti wouldn’t make much of a boost. Yes it is. This 10% increase in clock speed translates to about a 10% increase in gaming, outperforming the competition and proving the RTX 3090 Ti as the most powerful graphics processing unit (GPU) you can buy.
I focused less on content creation standards because the RTX 3090 is really the champ here. Honestly, 24GB of RAM and Nvidia’s own display technologies dominate the industry, so I mainly focused on the strained GPU workload with Blender to see how the Ti model might scale.
|RTX 3090 Ti||RTX 3090|
|PugetBench for Premiere Pro – GPU Result||92.7||93.1|
|Junk Shop Mixer||1,467||1,615|
Across all three performances in Blender’s 3.0 Open Data benchmark, the RTX 3090 Ti was about 5% faster. This is a solid boost if you’re only focusing on GPU-related workloads, but my results from PugetBench for Premiere Pro show that the Ti model may not provide a boost across applications.
For professionals who count the number of seconds until the show ends, the RTX 3090 Ti is the right choice. Even 5% down payment can represent thousands of dollars. For amateur creators who still want a very powerful GPU, the RTX 3090 is a great option. The RTX 3090 Ti might occasionally beat it, but the CPU and RAM will generally play a bigger role in performance than gameplay.
energy and heat
The RTX 3090 Ti Gaming OC from Gigabyte is a thermal performer. Played about an hour from Cyberpunk 2077 movie 4K resolution with all sliders turned on (including ray tracing). I had the DLSS set to Auto only so the game was playable, but even then, the card was 100% installed anytime I wasn’t on a list.
The card peaked at 69 degrees Celsius, which isn’t bad. It’s really impressive considering that the card sucked in as much as 429 watts while gaming, and the fan speed was only 68%. The card wasn’t loud enough to be a distraction, and I’m happy to see a lot of height even as the card approaches its power limit.
What was most interesting about this test was the speed of my watch. My card boosted up to 2,025MHz, which is 125MHz above the maximum boost clock listed by Gigabyte. If nothing else, it also shows how this card was installed while running Cyberpunk 2077, It is a testament to Gigabyte’s cooling solution.
The Gaming OC model has a BIOS toggle switch that provides default OC mode or silent mode. I kept the card in OC mode for my tests, but the silent mode is a good option if you don’t need the extra heft. It is especially useful in games like league of legends or brave Where you don’t stress the GPU too much and you don’t want the extra noise.
The Gigabyte GeForce RTX 3090 Ti Gaming OC is a beast of a GPU, and it comes with all the hallmarks of a top-performing 2022. It consumes an absolutely insane amount of power, and can get rather hot. But he managed to offset that with tangible performance gains even on the RTX 3090.
Are there alternatives?
Yes, the RTX 3090 is a solid alternative for content creators who don’t need the best. If you are a gamer and cannot use the RTX 3090 Ti, I would recommend going for the RTX 3080 Ti for the best balance of price and performance.
How long will it last?
The RTX 3090 Ti is the most powerful graphics processing unit (GPU) you can currently buy, so it should last you several years. If you’re in the market for this kind of groundbreaking software, you should probably upgrade your GPU long before the RTX 3090 Ti becomes obsolete.
Should you buy it?
Yes, even if you don’t need to. The RTX 3090 Ti is the best GPU I’ve tested, but it’s important to remember that major options aren’t always necessary.
