How to use Family Sharing on a Mac

Apple Family Sharing is not available for iOS devices only; You can also set it up on your Mac. The service allows you to share apps you’ve purchased in person, as well as letting family members use your books, movies, and more. Let’s take a look at how to use Family Sharing on a Mac.

Set up Family Sharing

Step 1: On your Mac, open System Preferences Under the tab the Apple icon in the upper left corner of the desktop. If you are logged into your Apple ID account on your Mac, then family sharing should appear. However, if you don’t see the code, just sign in to your Apple ID and go back to System Preferences.

Step 2: click family sharing. In this window, you will be asked if you want to be a family organizer. tap on next one button to confirm. In the next window, you will be asked if you want to Share your purchases. You also have the option to use a different account. click next one.

Step 3: In the payment window, your payment information with your Apple ID account will be displayed. There is also the possibility to use a different payment method via a button at the bottom next to next one. All purchases made by your family members that you have added to the Service will be linked to your card to purchase these apps. click next one. Agree to the terms and conditions and click Approves.

The fourth step: Besides sharing apps and the like, Family Sharing on your Mac also allows you to share the location of your connected devices with family members. click Finished.

Fifth step: You can now add people to Family Sharing on your Mac. tap on Add a family member type their name or email address, then select Complete. You’ll have to confirm your Apple ID password to continue, as well as confirm some details about your account’s payment card.

Once you add them, an email will be sent to them. After the invitation is accepted, their status within the family group will be changed accordingly.

If you want to add more members to the group, tap + button and follow the same steps as above.

Customize your Family Sharing settings

Step 1: tap on buy sharing tab. You can choose to turn off the option Share my purchases, as well as changing the card details. You can also disable completely buy sharing by choosing turn it off button.

Step 2: tap on iCloud storage tab. It will tell you to upgrade to a higher iCloud subscription plan to share your account with family members.

Step 3: tap on Share location tab. If you didn’t enable it during the initial Family Sharing setup process, open the Find My app on your Mac. Once set up, select File People tab, then select a family member’s name. Finally, tap share my location to choose.

The fourth step: tap on Device usage time tab. Here, you can manage Screen Time while adding your family members to the group by selecting Open Screen Time settings button.
