LG reveals details of the 2022 Soundbars

LG has a good reputation in TVs with its well-established line of OLED TVs, but they also offer several speaker models designed to compliment your TV viewing experience with great sound.

LG’s new speaker lineup for 2022 tops the 9.1.5 channel S95QR with five subwoofers and much more, which we reported on earlier and were also highlighted at the end of this article. However, since previewing the S95QR, LG has also revealed the rest of its 2022 speaker line which includes the S65Q, S75Q, S80QY, and S90QY.

These speakers can be used with almost any TV, but some features are only accessible when used with select LG Smart TVs.

Let’s go top of the line and see some of the highlights of what each model has to offer. As we go along the line, we’ll highlight the features that were added over the previous model(s).

S65Q

LG S65Q

The S65Q is LG’s entry-level speaker for 2022. However, it offers more than you might expect. Here are some of the notable features.

Total system power output: 420 W

Channel Configuration: 3.1 (3 front channels plus external wireless subwoofer)

Audio Format Support: PCM, Dolby Digital, DTS, AAC/ACC+, WAV over USB, MP3 over USB, FLAC over USB), OGG over USB, WMA over USB.

Ambient sound processing: DTS Virtual: X

Audio Modes / Equalizer: Standard, Music, Bass Blast, Bass Blast +, Cinema, Clear Voice, Sports, Game, AI Sound Pro. AI Sound Pro adjusts the frequency range and extension of the sound field based on content such as movies, news, and music.

Share TV sound mode: This enables you to pair the LG S65Q soundbar with selected 2021 and 2022 LG TVs to take advantage of the power of the TV’s sound processor to automatically improve sound quality.

LG Sound Sync: This feature locks in lip sync between what you see on the screen and what you hear from the speakers. Works with either a digital optical connection or a Bluetooth connection between select LG TVs and LG soundbars.

a musician: For additional support for music playback, the S65Q includes Meridian Audio Horizon technology that can mix 2-channel audio to 3.1 channels or more (depending on the number of speakers available in the ribbon amplifier). This creates an immersive music listening experience. The S65Q also supports High-Resolution Audio (up to 24bit/96kHz).

Connection: 2 HDMI connections (1 ARC, 1 pass-through for auxiliary source), digital optical, USB, Bluetooth

control: Wireless Remote Control, Smartphone Remote App (iOS, Android)

S75Q

The S75Q is a direct step up from the S65Q. Here are some of the additional features that this speakerphone has over the S65Q.

Total system power output: 380W

Channel Configuration: 3.1.2 (three front L/C/R channels, 2 up-firing speakers, and an external wireless subwoofer.

Audio Format Support: The S75Q and the remaining models in the lineup eliminate DTS Virtual:X surround processing in favor of support for the following surround sound formats: Dolby Atmos, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD HR/Master Audio, and DTS:X.

Connection: Same as S65Q but adds HDMI-eARC support.

Video support: HDMI 4K pass-through with HDR10/10 + and Dolby Vision

Dimensions (WHD): 35 x 2.56 x 4.69 inches

S80QY

Moving up the line of speakers, the S80QY has the following features over the S65Q and S75Q.

Total system power output: 480 watts

Channel Configuration: 3.1.3 (left, center, right, front L/R height, one wireless subwoofer, side port. Optional rear speakers are available.

Wireless rear speakers: Additional purchase required (SPQ8-S coming soon)

AI room calibration: To get the most out of listening to movies and music, the S80QY also includes AI room calibration. This allows you to customize the performance of your speakers by analyzing the dimensions of the room.

Delivery: Built-in Wi-Fi is included in the S80QY and higher speaker LG models as well as other connections previously listed on the S65Q and S75Q.

a musician: Spotify Connect And TIDAL Support is included.

HDMI gaming features: VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) and ALLM (Automatic Low Latency Mode). Variable refresh rate (VRR) and automatic low latency mode (ALLM) provide console players with perfect synchronization between onscreen action and audio.

Additional AV support: Enhanced IMAX compatibility is included in the S80QY and higher models.

Additional Features: Google Assistant, Alexa, AirPlay 2, Chromecast built-in, WOWCAST compatible.

advice: LG WOWCAST requires an optional Wi-Fi dongle. This eliminates the need to connect the audio cable between the speaker system and compatible LG TVs.

S90QY

Moving on to a high-end speaker line, the S90QY offers everything the QS80Y has with the following additions.

Total system power output: 570 watts

Channel Configuration: 5.1.3 (Left, Center, Right, Surround Left/Right (Side), Front Rise L/C/R, and Side-Port Wireless Subwoofer).

Wireless rear speakers: Additional purchase required (SPQ8-S coming soon)

Dimensions (WHD): 47 x 2.48 x 5.31 inches

Finally, we come to LG’s flagship speaker for 2022, the S95QR. The main things it does add is an extended channel configuration, it comes with wireless rear speakers, and increased power output. Other than that, all other features are the same as the S90QY.

Channel Configuration: 9.1.5 separate channels. There are three front channels, five upstream speakers, and a side wireless subwoofer. There are six surround channels in two included rear speaker cabinets.

Total system power output: 810 watts.

Dimensions (WHD): 47″ x 2.52″ x 5.31″
