PS5 gets a new system update today

Modern technology allows video game console manufacturers to improve their consoles after the initial launch, process fan feedback, make quality-of-life improvements, and more. Sony has released many updates of its own PlayStation 5 Since it was first launched at the end of 2020. Some of these PS5 updates have been fairly large, while others have been smaller in scope.

The latest PS5 update was released on Wednesday, April 13th. When starting their consoles, PlayStation 5 players will be asked to download a 1GB system update. However, they may be wondering what exactly this update does. Unfortunately, the patch notes for the latest PS5 update are somewhat vague and don’t tell users any specific changes that were made.

According to the patch notes, updating the PS5 system software improves system performance. It’s unclear exactly how it accomplishes this, but this isn’t the first time the PS5 has received an update like this. In fact, it looks like most PS5 updates since launch might fall into this category, with Sony’s “System Performance Improvement” without providing more detailed patch notes. Nintendo does something similar with its Switch update patch notes, usually only providing more detailed feedback when adding a new feature or making some kind of UI change.

While it seems like most PS5 updates might fall into this category, there have been more substantial updates to the system since its launch. One of the biggest PS5 system updates released allowed users to upgrade their console storage. This was much appreciated by many PlayStation 5 users, as the PS5 has limited built-in storage, especially when you consider the bloated file sizes of many modern games.

System software updates are always appreciated by the community, but some gamers may be more interested in PS5 hardware reviews. It may sound strange, especially with PS5 supplies still in short supply, but reports suggest that Sony may be preparing a new PS5 model for release sometime in 2023 or 2024. According to rumors, this PS5 Pro console will be a big deal. Upgrade over the current model in terms of performance, although fans will have to wait and see if there is any truth to these claims.

As it stands, one would think that Sony would focus on tackling PS5 supply issues and getting the current iteration of the console into the homes of as many gamers as possible. Then again, hardware reviews can lead to a more efficient system manufacturing process. Whatever the case may be, PS5 users can look forward to more system software updates in the future.
