Viral video shows Xbox One console infested with craft bugs

A recent viral video shows an Xbox One completely infested with ants, reminding players of the original meaning of “buggy.”

It used to be that when someone said their computer had a bug in it, they meant it literally. However, most people no longer have to worry about bugs crawling into a mainframe and taking down the entire computer network. Instead, the phrase “buggy console” now usually refers to something like the famous Red Ring of Death for the Xbox 360, which was a problem with the hardware itself.

However, one Xbox One The user recently discovered he had a legitimate pest control problem on his hands. A recent viral video shows an Xbox One infested with bugs, in a somewhat unsettling reminder of what “buggy” hardware means.

A user on the Xbox One subreddit called DMOrange shared the short video on Reddit under the headline, “It had some system bug.” However, one only needs to watch for a few seconds to realize that this is an understatement. The thirteen-second clip shows the Xbox One with the bottom of its plastic casing removed and a whole swarm of ants crawling around the chassis. Viewers can see the bugs moving freely in and out of the console, having clearly made a home between Xbox One cables and circuit boards. While this isn’t the only time ants have found a way to get into someone’s devices, it’s not a welcome surprise.

DMOrange explained the situation in a comment below the main post. According to the Reddit user, their family had the problem of ants that no amount of cleaning or traps could get rid of. DMOrange’s wife finally found the source when she was cleaning her home entertainment setup and spotted a swarm of ants crawling on her hand. DMOrange tried to save order by opening it up and blowing the ants away with compressed air. However, it had little effect, as ants invaded the Xbox One’s optical drive and many other internal components.

A few Reddit commenters give suggestions on how DMOrange could rescue their console. One suggestion is to put your Xbox One in a trash bag. The idea was to make a hole in one end with a pencil, then blow a hair dryer into the mouth of the bag. According to the commentator, the heat will push the ants out through the hole without harming the Xbox.

Another comment suggested submerging the entire console in a tub of isopropyl alcohol. However, as other comments have pointed out, this tactic still leaves DMOrange with the Xbox One riddled with dead ants and in need of a deep clean. Plus, while some components will be fine, doing so risks severe damage to your drives and thermal paste. Regardless of which solution ends up being the right one, it’s still an annoying situation for the console owner.
